Okay, so because I am spectacularly silly and *want* to be poor, I'm buying The Book Thief off Amazon, and since I have a discount due to owning an NUS card, I figured I'd pick up another book while there, and that book was going to be Danny, The Champion of the World (look, I'm fine with my desire to relive my childhood and the fact the my biggest literary "kink" is child/father relationships (we do not speak of my Lion King thing)), Which is fine, except I really, really want this cover. Which comes with the hardback. *grumbles*

In other news, I've had one of those weird days where on one hand, my social life has been kind of awesome - I even have an arrangement on Tuesday which might be a date with a very cute PTerry fangirl who I met this Wednesday (and how awesome are our LGBTA nights? Very much so, yes.), so, you know, wild amounts of GLEE on that count. However, school continues to suck a bit - seriously, my seminar tutor was impressed I knew when the Renaissance started and what the Reformation was. C'mon!

Also, the next person who explains to me that "people didn't go to bed medieval and wake up Early Modern" is going to get slapped so hard. Who above the age of 13 doesn't realize this? Seriously. I get it. Period dating is slightly arbitrary, yeah, thanks.

However! Instead of focusing on this, I shall focus on the possible-date-thing, and also masses of awesome fic. Which I shall also rec!

Angels in the Architecture (PG) is absolutely beautiful Tosh-fic. It's gen, though it contains spoilers for Greeks Bearin Gifts; it is in fact a coda to that episode, and manages to make your heart break for Tosh, even though it also makes you feel hopeful on behalf of the human race. This fic is short, but absolutely lovely - go read NOW!

Aliens Exist (R) is a short and sweet look at Jack/Ianto, which has possibly my favourite last line ever. Also, it's written by [livejournal.com profile] 3jane which is almost a guarentee of brilliance.

Four Stories Jack Harkness Doesn't Tell in Bed (and One He Does) (R) Jack/Ianto, but with references to other pairings. Talks about love after sex, and a beautiful and hurting Jack charactization.

C12H22O11 (PG-13) Jack/Ianto, but mostly Ianto. Ianto finds a creature who's come through the rift and, just, yeah. This fic is so adorable that the angst sneaks up on you when you least expect it. Again, by Jane, so you know it's good.

For When it's Dark (PG) Jack/Ianto, lost in the hub. Great characterization and a wonderful description of how one feels when one is lost. Also, I love how Jack deals with the dark, and how Ianto, even though he doesn't understand Jack, he still *gets* him.

Live in Infamy (R) bringing my recs full circle, we end again with Tosh, here in an AU where Jack and Tosh got stuck in 1941. This is incredibly *right* and incredibly beautiful and harsh. It also has wonderful Gwen charactization. And it'll make you tear up, I promise.

And also, because apparently, I have a huge love story kink, I've been reading the Harlequin challenge on [livejournal.com profile] sga_flashfic and I stumbled over The Hostage Major which is all kinds of awesome. AU, Rodney kidnaps John. I tried to type up a short summary, but seriously, it got way, way too complicated, so here's what you need to know: it has angst, snark and some really, really good sex. Also it builds up a compatability between the two of them that just *works* so well. And I love the way John's mind works.

Same theme, A Royal Deception is, in-so-far as I can tell, having no knowledge of canon, not AU. However, it is lovely - Rodney becomes Prince of...something, and the Atlantis team want him back. Again. Hot. It also makes me want to pet Ronon for some reason.

And now, I return to panicking about the maybe-date. Or possibly I go late night shopping. Hm.

Ooh, a maybe-date! Those are nice. Confusing, but nice. And you'll figure out soon enough whether it is or isn't.

It's funny, my life is a bit like yours right now. Great social life, uni sort of meh. That's a strange situation to be in for someone who misses her gymnasium teachers more than her fellow students.

As soon as I can read fic again, I'll go through you and Sofie's rec tags. Which will probably be when I'm done writing the fic. *sighs*

That's pretty much how I'm feeling, yeah. Confused, but good.

I know! I'm used to liking academia more than people! This is just freaky.

How's that coming along by the way? Looking forward to reading it *grins*

Oh, it's coming along. I haven't had much time to write lately but it'll get better, I hope. I've already written more than I usually do.

Also, I never thought trying to imagine what Torchwood 2 is like could be this much fun. :-)

How is it that you've read stories I haven't? You're making me feel inferior!

The Book Thief? That's the one you mentioned to me, right? Tell me if you like it, darling.

Dude, have you seen your rec posts compared to mine? You're the master - I just dabble! *hugs*

It is, and I plan to!

Heee! *hugs back*

Yay! In the mean time, I can heartily rec you Ellen Kushner's "The Privilege of the Sword" - for it is most awesome. Probably better if you've read "Swordspoint" first, but it's not necessary.
