Merry Christmas and Yuletide!

So, Yuletide fics are in! And lo' there are far, far too many good ones.
And the story I got? Is so amazing. You wouldn't believe it, which is why it's my first rec, because not only is it exactly what I wanted, it's also one of the best fics this years.
Every Good Girl Does Fine, Peanuts, G.
Patty and Marcie's senior year. It's incredibly well written and wonderfully quiet and *sweet* in such a lovely unsentimental way. A lot of the regulars on Peanuts make an appearance, all wonderfully in character and the friendship between Marcie and Patty rings so true - it's gorgeous. It's wonderful. I hadn't dare hope for anything this amazing and it just...it just works so well, so *right*. And Patty's enthusiam just dances off the page.
Diastole, Brokeback Mountain, PG.
This is a wonderful snapshot of Ennis at rest. It manages to capture the inner turmoil that Ennis has, that's tearing him apart as he tries to figure out what Jack's worth giving up. The prose is *good* and solid and Jack and Ennis are *Jack* and *Ennis*, entirely.
Not Like Christmas, Exactly, Bend it like Beckham, PG-13.
Christmas in Santa Monica isn't like Christmas in England. It's Jess/Jules, from Jules point of view. It's sweet and christmassy and incredibly *right* for the fandom. I particularly like the characterization of Jules.
We Are Nowhere And It's Now, Saved, PG-13.
Cassandra, Roland and Mary post-American Eagle. I like this because everyone is so *flawed*, and because it treats the issue of faith without being sentimental or, as such, judgemental. I love Saved for it's happy ending, but if this is what happened afterwards? I wouldn't be angry. Because Mary, Roland and Cassandra, they're still *them*.
Riding to Damascus, Lawrence of Arabia, PG-13.
I *love* Lawrence of Arabia, and as far as I'm concerned? *This* is what happened between scenes. It's just that beautiful and painful and *right*.
Tricksters Game, Norse Mythology, PG.
It's Loki, up to his usual tricks. And it's funny and irreverent and it's what Norse Mythology and the Norse Gods should be, really. I'd say it's in character, but you know, mythology. It felt in character to me, anyway, and it's truly is *funny*.
We Go Together, Grease, PG.
Reading this felt a little blasphemous, because it's Danny/Kenickie, and I've loved Rizzo/Kenickie since I was wee. But it's worth it, believe me. It *fits* with canon and Rizzo, who does make an appearance here, is spot-on and lovely.
(This Isn't the) Ballad of a Gravedigger, Garden State, R.
Because Mark is a loser, and he knows it, and this fic makes that painfully clear, particularly through his jealousy of Large and Sam. The prose is really good and the characters seem real.
Too Young, Too Old, Chronicles of Narnia, PG.
Narnia books never really consider how much growing up and then becoming children again might affect the Pevensies, and here you have Edmund aboard the Dawn Treader and feeling...a little lost. I've always liked Edmund, and this story real does him and Caspian justice.
Sticking to the Plan, RENT, PG-13.
I like this fic because I've never really liked Maureen and this makes me like her. Makes me feel for her, just a bit and understand her better, even if she still is a queen bitch in this too. Also, it captures the essence of Joanne, even if she isn't actively in the fic.
And Indeed There Will Be Time, Chronicles of Narnia, PG.
Post The Last Battle, Lucy settles into Narnia for good. This story is wonderful in it's description of the new Narnia, of Aslan, of Lucy. But the real reason I'm taken in by it, is that it let Susan back in and it does it right, so right.
Emnity and Amity, Mona Lisa Smile, R.
After the collapse of Betty's marriage, she and Giselle work something out. Because it's some of the best written femslash in a while and because while it's sweet and makes my heart go all fluttery, Giselle and Betty are still them, and they still argue and fight, despite their feeling for each other. It's *good*.
Thinking to Do, Brokeback Mountain, R.
Jack knows what he wants. And this story makes me hurt, because I *know* what happens. The story is just so hopeful and sweet, perfectly Jack.
Secrets, Dead Poets Society, PG.
They all have secrets. I like the all-round feel of this - every character gets his time and words. The boys also manage to be boys - confused and screwed up and thinking they have all the time in the world. The tone is really quiet, calm, so calm you can almost delude yourself that the movie ending isn't going to happen.
Billy Brennan, Prince of Humbugs, Jurassic Park 3, R.
Jurassic Park fic that isn't overdone on the angst, doesn't take the easy way out, has slash and an excellent Ellie? Well, I'm in love. This story strikes a great balance between angst and happiness and manages to capture an Alan and Billy post-Isla Sorna who're changed by the island, but still the same.
Another Country, Chronicles of Narnia, G.
Another new Narnia fic, this time from Jill's point of veiw. And it's just - it's pretty, and sweet and understated and wonderful. And, again, it has the four Pevensies reuniting.
The Ballad of Mark and Roger, RENT, PG-13.
Slash, but not quite. This captures well how *important* Mark and Roger are to each other - without excluding the rest of the cast. The story focuses on how, no matter what else happens, Mark and Roger belong next to each other and I love the way she does it, with small excerpts from their friendships evolution.
The Ballad of Lenny and Carl, The Simpsons, G.
Somehow, this fic manages to be sweet and poignant and *still* The Simpson, with all that entails. It's a characterization of Lenny and Carl through their interactions with each other, told with dreamy prose that'll still make you laugh out loud.
Passions of a Man, Batman Begins, PG-13.
Remember how I wanted Lucius/Albert back when I'd just seen Batman Begins? This isn't quite what I wanted, but man, it works so well. And both men are just sweet and old and grumpy and it's good!
