Disclaimer: We're all insane

Ever since the concert I've been wondering about why I had this niggling feeling in the back of my mind, and then it occured to me.

It was what my dad said about the early S&G psuedonyms, Tom and Jerry. Apperantly the psuedonyms were used because Paul Simon didn't think one could succeed with a Jewish last name.

This pisses me off. It irrates me. I mean, I didn't even think about the fact that Simon and Garfunkel both are Jewish names, because a) it doesn't matter to me and b) I don't know a Jewish name from an Anglo-Saxon, Catholic or Protestant name.

But I feel like I should. My own last name consists of two Jewish last names, very traditional ones too. And I remember what my father said about his father being ashamed of that last name, so much that my dad didn't even realise that it was a Jewish name, and his father was Jewish until a young man named Stern explained to him that no, it wasn't a German name, it was a Jewish name. That was when my father was 20 and his father had been dead for four years. And my dad still carries around a lot of angst about it, and that's why it pisses me off. It pisses me off that people felt the need to hide, even fucking after WWII, which should once and for all have hammered home the dangers of intolerance. But no, the world didn't change like that. And it's irritates me, because it makes me unsure of how far we've come today. Am I proud of my last name? Yeah. Do I know it's history? Yeah. But it doesn't seem to be enough.

Sidenote: Tom=Art, Jerry=Paul. Try listening to 'Only Living Boy in New York'. Yeah.

Went to see 'Stepford Wives'. Twas teh awesomness. And Nic was looking absolutely lovely and classy as always. I think I beginning to catch Julies crush on her.

Also, I want to know the terms of Matthew Brodericks deal with the Devil. Jesus. The man still looks like Ferris.

Am going to a friends summerhouse tomorrow. 0.o That'll be fun. Also, at this point, I've been so social during these hols, I need to go into hermit like conditions when I get home. Eep.
