So I've been wondering about slash. Most people on my flist read slash, in some form or other, so I'm assuming a few of you have opinions on the matter as well

I actually define a slasher as someone who sees two boys and go 'ooh, they'd be good together.' You don't have to actually read or write slash to be one, in my opinion.

And I don't really know you, so hi!

Ooh, that's a good point. Of course, they'd hardly be concious of being slashers ;) but they really do fit under the idea. Maybe it should have been anyone who reads or sees slash.

Hi back! I realize I sort of drive-by friended you and never introduced myself - very sorry, but glad it didn't freak you out and send you running!

Yep, I agree with [livejournal.com profile] caten. But can I ask you: how do *you* define slash?

Since I was lame and replied to my own poll you could find out just by viewing answers, but I'll just tell you - I define it as any m/m or f/f pairing. Just because that makes it easier for me to google what I want.

I slash anyone and anything that moves. Like penguins! And random stars who has never met each other! But I rarely read much slash anyone, which is bad :(

I do tend to go a bit O.o whenever someone friends me, but [livejournal.com profile] frazzles assured me you weren't dangerous so in the end I decided to friend you back! :D

Not read slash? How do you survive? ;) But yes, I understand the random oooh, they'd look pretty impulse that seems to make on a slasher; it's a perfect way to waste time when waiting somewhere crowded, like in a queue!

I'm glad I qualify as relatively harmless - would hate to think I'm scaring people away! :-D Glad you friended back

I RP it instead! Or write it, but I haven't done much of that lately, either. And ey, it's a perfect way to waste any time. I do it constantly >.>

Well, so far you haven't tried to kill me, at least. ;)

I've actually always defined a slasher as someone who writes slash, regardless of what they read. But I guess that reflects my bias: I probably write more fanfiction than I read in any genre.

Of course you do have a point, but there are some people who don't write, but read and essay on the subject, and I'd consider them slashers too. But it seems that that particular category could do with some more answer options ;)

I would say that slash is any actual or imagined homosexual relationship portrayed through media. I wouldn't necessarily say that it extends to real life, because I, personally, have never had the thought about REAL real people (as opposed, to say, famous real people) in terms of slashing them, you know what I'm saying?

Also, I wouldn't necessarily define a slasher as someone who reads only slash, or anyone who reads slash, simply because a) I'm definitely a slasher, but I like a good healthy dose of het every now and then (Eomer/Eowyn or Angel/Buffy being very good examples), so that throws that one out. And as far as anyone who reads slash... my mother's not a slasher but I know that she's read some that I've written. (Which is a whole weird thing in itself.)

Possibly should have specified it as anyone who reads regularly. You let your mother read your slash? Thatøs awesome. And brave.

I suppose most people do read het every once in a while too ;)

Yes, that was what I'd intended with the poll: slash in fandom/media, not just random HoYay/homoeroticism, which is fine and good in itself.

It wasn't that I LET her, it was that, like, it was saved on the computer and she DECIDED to. Oh well. I let my mom read my fic. It's all good. Although, I think most of mine that she's read has been the HP, but there was some stuff back in the day...

Not really a fan of random hoyay! so... I guess it just doesn't happen to me.
