Nov. 6th, 2004 05:53 pmHello All!
Apart from a rather worrying sore throat and an overwhelming urge to kill Mel Gibson [the urge is always there, it's just overwhelming right now], I am in an excellent mood.
There's good fandom news, good general news and good family news. Well, maybe not so much news.
My grandmother is staying with us this days, which is rather agreeable. We had a long talk yesterday, spurred by sixty minutes, about sex, sexuality and why, for God's sake, some mothers are insane. Also about how religion sort-of-sucks. Particularly in regard to Mel Gibson. Who is an ass. Though the Daily Show comment was good. I digress.
I am constantly reminded that my family is both very weird, and very liberal. My grandmother and I talked about how teaching absitnence is hugely dangerous, how it warps young peoples minds with regards to sex, themselves and themselves in relation to others, and also how my grandmother thinks that women who give up sex after menopause are insane.
Yes, I talk about sex with my grandmother. I know.
We also discussed how people who refuse to vaccinate their kids are ridiculous. And that not supporting stem cell research is equally ridiculous. Which is how we got on the subject of Mr. Gibson and his ridiculous "I was once those twelve cells!" statement. My grandmother said that he was a ridculous religious relic. Which had me in a fit. You should have heard her voice.
Went shopping today and am now the proud owner of a pair of new shoes. Hurrah! Met an old classmate of Tessie's in the store, spoke to her about school, very amusing. Also, went hunting for a rainbow bracelet, without much sucess, but I shall not be deterred!
Am making a Christmas List, and am positively disturbed about how hard it is so come up with idea. Ergh. However, have more-or-less decided on everything I want to give to my family. Go me. Now, all I need is the money. I sense a complication.
Still have no ideas for Tina, though. *pokes you* Also, Senni, Dee, Emmi, would you like cards? Small gift?fic? I am open, though not on a huge budget. Sorry.
Am contemplating sending powerpoint show of how to use Amazon with wishlist. A bit forward and tacky, perhaps? Hm. Possibly.
Today was Andreas' birthday. [My little brother, not the one from my class, because as it has been said, he's a bit of an ass] Got him 'Life of Brian' because one can never go wrong with Python. Am going with family, minus father, to Hard Rock for dinner later. Will undoubtably be good fun. Father is instead going to a party, as two of his friends are turning fifty. My father took that as an opportunity to angst over his own age. For ten minutes, until I reminded him that Billy Joel is fifty-four and married to a twenty-nine year old. This cheered him up enough to make inappropriate comments about the Springsteen concert, and whether or not Bruce Springsteen would be good in bed.
Went to the Study Abroad bazaar thing today. picked up information about Leciester University along with Newcastle-on-tyne, both which look excellent. Both which require a grade point average of 10. Yay. That's so very likely. Ah, well. Also picked up info about a community college in New Jersey which offers Women Studies and Communications. Hm.
As for fandom, all I can say is Hee! Stephen Fry. *snuggles* Watching TV2 Charlie, which is awesome no matter what anyone else says, and they showed 'Jeeves and Wooster'. Hee! I think I'm a little bit in love. And of course, I'm a little bit infatuated with the idea of Jeeves/Wooster slash. Yay! For new pairings. Also yay! for the slash database project.
Alright, I'm off to do someting vaguely...something-ish. Yes.
