Hee! Anyone seen the Golden Globe nominations yet?
A lot of the nominations make me very happy. Except, The Producers rather than Rent, wtf? Huzzahs for awards season!
I could whine about illness and tiredness and such, but instead!
* The first kiss was one of the most beautifully coregraphed kisses I've ever seen. It was so, so lovely; the way that Jack keeps trying and trying to kiss Ennis and can't quite get him to respond and then suddenly it works and they pull away all nervous and it's just so gorgeous and cautious and insecure. And damn hot, too.
* Everyone acted so well - Rasmus was particularly impressed by Michelle Williams and Heath Ledger, I thought they were good, but Jake Gyllenhal has been sold short by the promotion of this movie, if you ask me; he made Jack so vunerable and yet strong, which I adored. And Anne Hathway was good, even if she was slightly mistakenly cast, in my opinion.
* The scenery and the way it was shot was absolutely gorgeous, particularly during the herding scenes. Now, because I used to be a bit of a horse geek, I have read quite a bit about herding when I was younger and it was so much better done than I could've hoped. So incredibly beautiful.
* The fidelity to the short story was wonderful. I could recognize lines from the story, I could fill in the missing thoughts in the characters heads, I was incredibly happy with that.
*And the fight! Oh, I adored the fight, it some how works so well because it sort of characterizes their relationship - the fight and that kiss, the slammed up against the wall one? yeah. Somewhere between fighting and sex. And I love like you wouldn't believe.
* The pace! The pace was perfect; slow and building. Exactly as it should have been. It was one of the things I liked best, because the story seems to move slowly, even though it's incredibly short. And I like the fact that, despite that in the story the coming together part is slightly rushed, the movie took it's time with it, lots of lingering looks and moments of not-quite-bonding.
* However, what was up with Ennis' girlfriend? She didn't add much of anything. I liked most of the scenes with Ennis and his family and I liked that we saw more of Alma jr. than you do in the story, but the girlfriend didn't do anything for me, and the very last scene didn't add impact. It could just as well have ended with Ennis in his car over the Brokeback landscape. But, it should be noted that I loved quite a lot of the scenes with Ennis and Alma and Jack and Lureen and the kids were all cute.
* The movie is wonderful, it's what it should be - lingering, longing, yearning sad story, which at the same time manges to be somehow life affirming. No, I don't know how it manages it. but it's sexy and sweet and heartbreaking and harsh and you all need to go see it. And the shirt! Oh, the shirt
Now, when does it premiere in Denmark? *needs ticket to see it again like whoa* I wonder if I can tag-team a movie night Friday; start with Good Night and Good Luck and then take on Brokeback Mountain again. If it comes out Friday.
Now, I should probably get to bed with The Handmaid's Tale and a large cup of tea, so I don't wake up with a worse cold than I have now.
