what is the virtue of a closed book exam in English?

Had my first university exam. Not as bad as I thought it would be, but I still think closed book exams in English literature are both arbitrary and lacking in academic virtue. However! All done!

And tomorrow I meet Gemma's family and all of her closest friends and I'm freaking out.

Also, everyone's been thinking thinky thoughts and I can't keep up. Sorry! Will try and get my act together after exams.
