Regarding discussion of Iraqi prison torture and American prison torture

The point is not whether or not Americans are being tortured in Iraqi prisons.

I have no doubt that they are. I have no doubt at all, and I think it's horrible. I think it's terrible, hateful and fucking gruesome.

But it's not the point. You cannot use the murder of Nick Berg, horrible, inhumane as it was, or the torture of American prisoners to justify the torture of Iraqi prisoners of war. For one, these individuals have nothing to do with the Iraqi prisons. For another, they are innocent until tried, and proven guilty.

Thirdly, we are trying to prove that we are fighting for freedom, democracy and order. That is why we should try these people. That is why we should condemn these people. They violated international law, voilated all that we're trying to say that this war is about. This is what the point is. Iraqi prisons have nothing to do with it.
