Aaron Sorkin, Sports Night and the emmy's
Sep. 28th, 2002 02:35 pmOk, so I'm kidding. The Emmy's have diddely to do with all this, execpt for the fact that I saw Peter Krauz at them, and was all "Holy shit, it's CASEY!!"
I'll admit to being a rabid fanfic reader. Love writing it too, but I am rarely inspired. Um, where was I? Right, so my newest 2 obsessions are Sports Night and West Wing. Funnily enough Aaron Sorkin created both these series. And it shows. Strongly.
Exhibit A.
Both Casey (McCall) and Sam (Seaborn) were married/or (in Sam's case) engaged to a girl named Lisa. They both left because of work. (Casey moved to NY, instead of taking a job on Conan O'Brien, Sam went to DC to work for the President)
Exhibit B.
Both of them followed their friends in above reasons. Casey would rather work with Daniel (Rydell, his long time friend) than Conan, Sam was convinced by Joshua (Lyman) that he was need in the Bartlet adminstration.
Exhibit C.
In both shows a strong friendship is emphazied. Casey and Dan work together and help each other with E.V.E.R.Y.T.H.I.N.G. As do Sam and Josh
Exhibit D.
All characters have unreasonably long work days
Exhibit E.
None of the characters have ever heard of leaving their personal lives at home. Probably because most of them don't know where their home is, they spend that much time at work.
Exhibit F.
Inter-work place relationships are not discouraged (This was more balant in Sports Night, but I digress)
Exhibit G.
Both shows have 2 Jews. One of them is part of the strong friendship mentioned in C.
On SN it's Jeremy and Dan, on WW it's Toby and Josh.
Exhibit H.
Both Dan and Josh have been in therapy
Exhibit I.
Both Dan and Josh are from Conneticut
Exhibit J.
In the friendship one is always a walking dictionary while another is the sarastic and snarky-but-lovable one. In the first category it's Casey and Sam. In the second it's Dan and Josh
Exhibit K.
Raquetball. Sam plays Raquetball (hm, dunno if he plays with Josh, though) Dan and Casey play raquetball once a week.
I'm only saying, nice coincedences.....
