no such thing as the real world
Jan. 24th, 2008 06:22 pmI cannot do my excitement about Critical Theory justice. Seriously. We are talking about the best course ever here. We are talking about queer theory, feminist readings, structuralism, postmodernism, Marxist theory, and today's lecture was on analysing advertisements for detergent vs. bleach! And, and this is the most fabulous bit, we get to pick our own text for our final essay. And when I say text, I mean anything that employs signals to communicate which means this is not a literary course, it's culture studies, and if I were any more gleeful, I would actually, literally explode from joy. I could write about Disney, you guys! Also, I have a mad, gleeful crush on Barthes.
English department, you are totally forgiven for last term and also the beginning of this week, because baby, this is why I'm doing this. This is why I'm doing literature, I can't even explain, but this is what interests me, the text and the world and how we understand literature and, oh god, I could totally do reader-response theory work and talk about narrative and excuse me, I have to go re-read Bennett and Royle right now.
