Literature/Women's Studies etc. are a microcosm of the world and individuals' places in it and this is something that has always moved and interested you. You want to learn about humanity; what better way than to study what humanity has produced or how one of the historically most oppressed groups has thought, thinks, deals and copes with the boundaries and limitations, not to mention the beauty and the strength, of the world?
